The Last Shore

One District.
Three Oceans.
Where India Meets the Sea.

This is the only place on the Indian subcontinent where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean meet. At the southernmost tip of mainland India, waves from three seas converge along a single shoreline — a rare meeting of waters found almost nowhere else on Earth.

Known in ancient Tamil literature as Nanjil Nadu, this region was once part of the Ay Kingdom of the Sangam age, later becoming the heartland of the Venad Kingdom and the powerful Travancore Kingdom. The magnificent Padmanabhapuram Palace, one of Asia's largest wooden palaces, still stands as a reminder of that royal legacy.

In 1892, Swami Vivekananda meditated on a rock just offshore, an experience that shaped his vision before he carried India's philosophy to the world.

Within a single hour, the land transforms from mountains and forests to fertile farmlands and the open ocean, reflecting the ancient Tamil landscapes of Kurinji (mountains), Mullai (forests), Marutham (farmlands), and Neithal (coastal lands).

Four Landscapes.
One District.
No Other Place Like It.

Tamil literature describes the world through five landscapes of life — Thinai. Kanyakumari is one of the rarest regions on Earth where four of these five landscapes exist together in a single district, except the desert. Mountains, forests, fertile farmlands and coastal shores — all within a short distance of each other.
